She was educated by her older brother Louis, a monk, because Christian education was unstable during the French Revolution.

When Madeline was growing up, her brother Louis brought her to Paris to protect her from exposure to worldly life.

Saint Madeline founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1801 and devoted most of her time teaching girls in the Society.
